Ankara-Karabuk-Zonguldak Railway
There is a 484 km single track railway between Ankara-Karabük-Zonguldak. The 415 km section of the line between Irmak-Karabük-Zonguldak has been rehabilitated, the signaling infrastructure has been improved, the passenger platforms have been made suitable for the disabled and the line has been brought to European Union standards. The railway line is used not only for freight but also for passenger transport.
The railway route passes right in front of Zonguldak Airport. Therefore, it has an important potential in terms of integration between different transportation modes. A concept tourism project named Green Route (Railway to Coal) has been created in order for the railway line to serve tourism directly and to create a new destination route.
Green Route (Railway to Coal)
The line located on the Ankara-Karabük-Zonguldak route is one of the five lines planned to serve within the scope of train tourism in our country. The Green Route connects major attractions that blend nature, culture and industrial heritage. It has been stated by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism that one of the special tourism trains can also be used on this line.
When passenger transportation starts on the line, it will be possible to experience the Green Route travel to the Western Black Sea Region by using the existing trains individually or in groups. Currently, there are reciprocal flights between Karabük and Zonguldak.
